The annual Perseid Meteor Shower has lit up the skies across the world to mesmerise those hoping to catch a glimpse of a shooting star. The celestial event is often a highlight in the calendar of meteor hunters because it can produce up to 100 meteors per hour and creates bright fireballs and breathtaking shooting star displays. The meteor shower is called Perseids because the radiant, the point the meteors appear to stream to Earth from, is located in the constellation of Perseus. The celestial event takes place at a similar time in July and August each year. And this year, it peaked on August 12 and August 13. This meteor shower has been active since July 17 and the best viewing opportunities are also expected between August 31 and September 1. Here, we take a look at some of the best pictures of the Perseid Meteor Shower from around the world.
