Irrfan Khan: Life in Pictures

Opening up about his fight with cancer, Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan expressed these words in a heartfelt note in 2018 - "I trust, I have surrendered". Almost after two years, the 'Piku' actor left for heavenly abode. He was admitted to Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai after suffering from colon infection. The sad news was tweeted by Irrfan's Piku director Shoojit Sircar. He tweeted, "My dear friend Irfaan. You fought and fought and fought. I will always be proud of you.. we shall meet again.. condolences to Sutapa and Babil.. you too fought, Sutapa you gave everything possible in this fight. Peace and Om Shanti. Irfaan Khan salute." Irrfan Khan, who is known for his outstanding acting skills, was born to a Muslim Pashtun family in Jaipur on January 7, 1966. Irrfan Khan got a scholarship to study at the National School of Drama (NSD) in 1984 while pursuing his MA degree. After passing out from NSD, he moved to Mumbai, where he acted in numerous TV shows including 'Chanakya', 'Bharat Ek Khoj', 'Sara Jahan Hamara', 'Banegi Apni Baat', 'Chandrakanta', 'Shrikant' and 'Sparsh'. He made his Bollywood debut with the Academy Award-nominated movie 'Salaam Bombay!' in 1988. He rose to fame with negative roles in the movies 'Haasil' and 'Maqbool'. He was bestowed with a Filmfare Award for Best Villain for 'Haasil'. The film 'Paan Singh Tomar' in which he played the titular role earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor and a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor. Irrfan Khan was awarded the Padma Shri in 2011 for his contribution to the field of arts. Irrfan Khan's critically acclaimed comedy-drama 'Hindi Medium' garnered numerous awards. He also received appreciation in Hollywood as he worked in many international projects such as 'The Warrior', 'The Namesake', the Academy Award-winning film 'Slumdog Millionaire', 'New York, I Love You', and 'Inferno'.
